CMU vs Georgetown

CMU, 10000/ 2 years 的scholarship; Georgetown, 25000/2 years 的scholarship

congratulation first!

$10000 per year or for two years? would you pls share your background?

thanks

10000 for two years, so only 5000 per year. Compared with its high tuision fee, the scholarship is just a little.

Background: G 740/ T 270. from an average university in China. IT background.

congratulations, juan! I would say georgetown cause its reputation is not less stellar than CMU's

Georgetown. The location is VERY good and important.

As to CMU, I remembered having read an article in this forum saying that do not go there. Pittisburg is an old industrial city that you won't like it.

Anyway, Congratulations!!!

GOOD LUCK

CMU is very reputable in the IT field.  If you want to stay in IT,then CMU without a questions.  Although CMU's tuition is moreexpensive, the town, Pittburgh, itself is not as expensive asGeorgetown.  ittsburgh is not as fun as the Washington D.C. metroarea, but for 1.5 years, you may not care.

Good luck to you too.

10%. not a big deal, right?

个人觉得CMU的tuition只是比其他的高个4-5千, not a big deal....

The living expenses are not cheap in CMU, I talk to one of students there. Housing is not cheap at all(campus area)

I believe you should go to CMU, which is a very solid program and is recognized by a much broader IT based recruiters. Its quantitative edge is almost second to none. International students normally have a much better chance to find a good job due to CMU brand, compared with Georgetown. Location, tuition are important, but we alll understand why we go to pursue an MBA, which is to find a job. Don't let those short sighted premium dilute your key decision factor. BTW, Georgetown is not strong at IT or any hard core skill at all.

good luck!

the cost of living in DC is much higher than that in Pitt. I have a friend in pitt, $500 for 1br apt, 20 mins to campus by bus. In DC, I think about $650.

but do you really care this amount of money? taking an example of the difference is $200 per month, 200*12*2=4800

I don't think this should be a factor to impact your decision.

I feel GT is strong and reputable in liberal arts, while CMU is good at the science and engineering. At least for me (mechanical engineering background), when I was in China, I had not heard about GT. After I came US, I learn this university from TV -- its professors in politics, humanity always show on TV to discuss the events

juan,

Firstly, congratulations! Both of CMU and Georgetown are good schools.  CMU will be a good choice if you still want to work in IT after graduate.  However, Georgetown is a wonderful place to live and meet people.  Anyway, listen to your heart to make a right choice.

I lived both in Pittsburgh and Washington D.C. metro area.  Trust me, Georgetown is much more expensive.

CMU is expensive if you live on campus, but the campus is not thatbig.  You can find very affordable housing in Shady Side andSquirrel Hill.  Both are nice neighbourhoods adjuscent toschool.  Oakland used to be the cheapest option for students, butthe neighbourhood is questionable.  A lot of asian, especiallyrich kids from HK and TW goes to CMU.  It has a decent asianalumni network as well.

Georgetown is better-known for its poli-sci and law schools.  Itsb-school has a good ranking, but not as good as CMU, especially in techmanagement.

Money-wise, you do have 15K more from GT, that is a factor you may wantto consider.   I won't hurt to ask CMU politely if they canprovide more  scholarship.  Tell them that you think CMU is agood fit for you, and you would like to see if they can help you a bitmore.

Congratulations and good luck!

IT背景,还是CMU吧,CITIGROUP,IBM等大的公司都在CMU招人,IT领域最强的!
