正确答案是B，有疑问的A选项，虽然知道A有些wordy,但是在考GMAT上看到解释A选项的时候说the national average表达不清楚，我想知道哪里表达不清楚了？不就是国家的平均水平吗？为什么会表达不清楚？

g里面出现一个core noun一定要有限定说明它得成分来define它。这题前面是American后面突然出现一个national，那么请思考一下。你可能觉得这个national说得就是美国，可是事实呢？我可以问你哪个nation是其他nation和美国对比呢？还是美国在自己和自己对比？
加深你的理解请参考og13th 130#D选项那个the energy～跟这题同心同理

记得在manhattan语法的idioms里特地有提到average这个用法，A选项 as（ was ）the average national to beself-employed 这样就是正确的当然was略显wordy，可以删。
不知道自己理解的对不对，如果可以我觉得manhattan这边书还是蛮好的，我是初学者，如回答不当权当一笑
