标题: GMAT 710 申请TOP 20 有希望吗？2015年入学，求定位！！！ [打印本页]

标题: GMAT 710 申请TOP 20 有希望吗？2015年入学，求定位！！！
各位大侠牛人：

小女子2年前考的GMAT 只有710分，然后在美国人的称赞声中便以为710够了，于是没有再考了。。。然后现在发现确实有点低，但由于时间关系也不准备再考了。所以我想问一下关于定位的问题。

本科学校：旧金山州立大学 san francisco state university, 普通州立大学，GPA 3.87, 其中去日本早稻田交流了一年
预备申请：nyu, cornell, columbia, ( 很想回纽约）UofMichigan Ann Harbor, 可能 Duke
工作年限：到现在 3.5年
行业：fortune 100 company marketing in financial data and service sector in New york (3yrs), 然后今年年初回国来在一个fund(小公司，管理3亿人名币，我直接管理3200万）做investment manager, focus on pharma and medical devices.
为什么准备读MBA: 以后想做healthcare的投资或者咨询, 发现自己专业知识严重不足。而且想在美国多建立些人脉，特别是在医药和医疗领域
职业目标：要不cross border investment in healthcare，要不做corporate strategy consultant in healthcare
Dream School：Columbia, UofMichigan
目前状态：2年前考的GAMT 710+6，不需要考T，
优势：有国际背景（在美国读书工作，日本交流，中国工作），会中文，英文和日文，在美国大公司做过（离开时是个assistant manager)，也在中国小公司做过。做过一些社会服务工作。
不足: G 不高。路线不是很明确，首先做marketing, 然后马上转到 investment, 而且年初才回的国，明年就又回去读书，怕这个故事说不好。考分不突出，工作经验也一般，本来准备再在国内做1年再申请，但是青春不等人啊！

工作1年的时候申请了NYU，被惨剧了，面试都没有拿到，今年准备重申。想请各位前辈牛人帮我分析一下： 1）我的目标是否定得偏高？如果是，有哪些你们觉得不错的学校？2）我如果申请学校的话，是用marketing/strategy 来说故事，还是用 cross broder invesment in 医药医疗比较好？

楼上劝人重考的不知道什么心态。这个背景710完全够了，你需要的是好好梳理自己的工作内容和职业方向，讲个好故事，前20那是打底好吗？

顶!，多少750的人AWA都达不到6。。。。。。。

你觉得我是说投资那个故事比较好，还是做策略咨询那个故事比较好呢？

我直接管理3200万亮点啊。没有研究员经历直接管钱，LZ牛！

我也没有直接管理啦，是我负责的医药方面大概有3200万，我们还是有个投资总监，他是真正的管理者。

所以有点虚。。。

Are you kidding me? Re-take GMAT exam? Don't waste your time, focus on your essay, make a good story. You should be qualified to apply any school, not just CBS or Ross.

我应该是“一天都不想做了，很想回学校了”。我也不小了，人生还有很多其他的事情等着我去完成。。哈哈！不知道你明白我在说什么不。。。

Thanks for your encouragement! What other schools are you referring to? I really need to understand how to postion myself right... :S

G要刷
因为本科非名校，难以证明Academic Capacity
然后要看why healthcare?
why marketing? why strategy?
why marketing in NYU
目前这些goal跟学校完全不make sense

Hello there good sir,
So first of all your profile is quite interesting. Your GMAT is excellent even if it's not busting the ceiling! But it should be good enough for you to get into a Top 20 school. I think your China/US/Japan experience is pretty unique, and I think you can play that up when you apply and it will help you out. Your industry and then your investment manager work seems pretty excellent too.

Your school list is pretty good too. It's maybe a liiiittlle bit on the hard side. You might want to add one more school that is not that tough to your list (but still excellent). For example a school like Johnson.

I would say that since your most recent work is in investment that might make more sense. But since you also have marketing, to be honest you could make a case for that as well.

It's something we'd have to discuss more in detail once I know a bit more about your work experience.

Thanks for your candid response- much appreciated. I actually have sent you my resume, some of my essays to your hbs.edu email and your colleauge Claudia Aliperta has already reached out to me. I know that CBS and NYU might be a strech for me so I also have U of Michigan and Johnson listed as well. I do want to go back to NYC (for many reasons) but I also understand that CBS and NYU are the tougher schools to get in.

I am glad that you noticed my delimma here - investment or marketing strategy? This question has been borhtering me for a while and I still couldn't make up my mind. I understand that it is more of a question for myself to answer. I enjoy analyzng the industry landscape, talking to people, learning different companies or projects and valuate them, but I don't neccesarily enjoy trading, building models, calculating or anything too technical. Based on all these information, what story do you think fits me more?

谢谢你的建议！
我G不会刷了，哪怕代表我只能近差一点的学校。我已经2年没有碰过GMAT 了，再考又要全部重新开始。
关于why healthcare? 是因为我现在就是在做这个方面的工作，觉得很有意思，也很有潜力。
其实我没有确定要做marketing, 也有可能做investmet .... 学校的选择很大方面是因为我想回纽约。

可能我会争取R1 如果不行我做R2也是可以的。主要觉得R1 比较容易代表我的strong interests.

你有什么别的好的学校推荐吗？
