The results of the company's cost-cutting measures are evident in its profits, which increased 5 percent during the first 3 months of this year after it fell over the last two years.

其实整道题目并没有问题了，只是想求证一下自己关于这道题的理解
which后面的整个部分作为profits的定语，意思是profits在fall后的三个月内上涨了5%，也就是先跌后涨
然后注意到存在during the first 3 months和over the last two years两个完成时态的标志词，考虑完成时
使用完成时态需要一个持续到现在的时间段，该时间段：after falling就是作为过去的时间点（开始），3个月后的今天为现在的时间点（结束），因此用have increased而不是did
同时，至于had done要求的是过去的时间点（1）—过去的时间点（2），这里不存在两个过去的时间点，只有一个过去的时间点
然后我之前本想改成which have increased…after they had fallen over the last two years，但又发现改完后，没有过去的时间点作为参照了，after they had fallen也是作为一段时间而不能作为过去的时间点，所以也不对
求讨论

1）楼主你想得too much，过头了。
2）“存在during the first 3 months和over the last two years两个完成时态的标志词”，这里主句的动词只有一个increase，只有during the first 3 months of this year对increase起作用，of this year 很重要哦，连上the first 3 months, 这才是past的关键点。
3）楼主要仔细看OG 669页的解释，an action that occurred at an indefinite time in the past or that began in the past and continues into the present.并不是说从现在开始往前推。原文的意思实说increase这个动作持续了3个月。
4）after后面用it...开头找不到指代，所以直接用动词，简介明了。

懂了你2,3,4句的意思，我其实也是认为完成时态的时间段是3个月前到现在这一段时间，不过我是把after...作为时间参照点
我没有想得过头吧？

after大多用来引导时间状语，我认为这里也是，我倾向于after the profits had been falling over the last two years.用过去完成进行时，表明1）在increase之前；2）持续性的fall

我刚开始也是这么想的，但是后来觉得这样改后，had been falling没有过去的参照时间点

楼主，我想的比你简单一点，这里和你讨论一下，首先看完了原句，发现逻辑语义是没有问题的，所以不要改变原文的逻辑结构，所以D和E都排除（改变了句子），然后看ABC，发现AB当中都有it的指代作为高风险选项考虑，it带到原句里面发现找不到指代，所以AB也排除了，c是答案。
