标题: confirm one's doubt 的意思
想请教一下牛牛们，

The findings of that experiment have confirmed scientists' previous doubt that Mars has water.

这里的confirm one's doubt是说findings确认了火星有水，还是确认了科学家们的怀疑（意思是增加了怀疑的理由）？

因为在GWD第24套的最后一篇阅读理里，有一个选项是

A. They have confirmed researchers’ doubts regarding the theory that convection within the mantle can lift or lower Earth’s surface vertically.

这个选项是错误的，但其实那个"they"的确证明了后面的theory，我想确认这个答案被排除是因为选项的意思说反了。
我觉得这题更应该像语法题，所以发这里了。
