标题: 求助求助，句子结构问题呀！
The winds that howl across the Great Plains not only blow away valuable topsoil, thereby reducing the potential crop yield of a tract of land, but also damage or destroy young plants.

谁能帮忙分析一下红体部分在整个句子中的结构。

我有点晕了，红体部分是现在分词表伴随结果吗？如果是，为什么要加thereby？

如果不是，这又是什么结构呢？

thereby是副词，不是连词，懂了这一点，我想你就明白结构了。
在这里thereby只是强调一下：这是半句是结果。删了意思也不影响。

删掉就好了~应该是ing分词短语作伴随状语表结果。这种插入成分都是用来干扰你的，都统统给他删掉只看主句就能先弄明白句子结构再做题。
其实你去练杨鹏长难句多了就明白这样的结构了。
