标题: OG13-128 大象进化it指代问题

Australian embryologists have foundevidence that
suggests that the elephant is descended from an
aquatic animal, and its trunk originally evolving as a
kind of snorkel.

(A) that suggests that the elephant is descended
from an aquatic animal, and its trunk originally
evolving

(B) that has suggested the elephant descended
from an aquatic animal, its trunk originally
evolving

(D) to suggest that the elephant had descended
from an aquatic animal and its trunk originally
evolved

(E) to suggest that the elephant is descended from
an aquatic animal and that its trunk originally
evolved

选E。我有点晕，and后面的its为什么能指代到前面的elephant呢？他们不是两个独立的分句么，就说明拆开来读也是可以的，那第二个不就变成to suggest that its trunk ,,,,, 指代不到大象啊，

求助，有点晕

its指代的问题：【处于主句位置的代词，倾向于指代平行对象的主语。】因为这里是两个that从句平行，而且第二个that从句中的its处于主语位置，所以首选指代elephant。而这又符合逻辑，故没有问题。
