11.20 独立 Do you agree thattelephones are playing a more effective role than television in people’s life.

There is a public debate today that telephones are playing a more effective role than television in people’s life. Some think it’s true, the others believe television is still an essential part in humans’ life.

With fast development of technology, telephones, as a modern communicated tool, play a more and more important role. Every day, I fall in sleep with my iPhone and it is iPhone that paly the alarm clock’s role to wake me in every morning. It is a common phenomenon in our daily life I believe especially in urban areas. It seems like we cannot live without telephones. Keeping in touch with others also need telephones which make instant communication possible. I have to say that anytime when I want to hang out or have dinner with my friends, my telephone makes the connection more effective indeed. Moreover, it’s really a good helper when we deal with emergencies such as traffic accident. Anyway, the influence of telephones has permeated every aspects of people’s lives.

Furthermore, applications provided by technologists that can be downloaded to our telephones are diverse which means we can pick up many helpful applications. I am interested in Nike+ running which is an application used to help us develop the habit of jogging regularly that is good for health. Human biology is ill-suited for the modern world. Junk food is cheap and delicious, firms spend billions advertising it. Therefore, people consume more calories than they spend. Two-thirds of Americans are overweight and obese. Developing countries are catching up. In China, nearly 30% of adults are too wide. This poses a grave challenge to health system. So, this kind of applications play a part in supervises and encourages people to exercise frequently in order to use up excess calories. It is convenient that the appearance of applications for telephones.

Nowadays, there is a growing awareness that telephones can replace television sometimes. Television is invented to entertain by watching television series and receive news about what happens in outside world. But actually, we can watch young serious or current affairs on telephone for the developing of Internet technology. Another equally important aspect is fascinating with watching television is bad for our health. ‘Couch potato’ is the phrase we often use to describe those people watching television day and night without doing anything meaningful so that they become fatter and fatter. In this hand, televisions make our life less effective. The feather that television programs’ providing plenty of information also cannot equal the numerous news that Internet supplied. In this way, telephones do better than televisions.

Certainly, televisions have their own advantage, such as watching television do provide time and space for us to stay with our family. It helps to maintain a good relationship between your families. Have you noticed that the older you are, the less time you spend with your parents? Have you noticed that you and your friends are always typing on the telephones when you hang out together? Have you noticed that the time you spend with your telephone is too much? Maybe you have felt that. Your parents will be very happy if you can spend time keeping company with them, even though a short time. Watching television is one of the best choices that sitting in a couch comfortable, chatting optional maybe with some delicious food, it definitely will bring a wonderful evening. In a word, do not spend too much time in using telephone.

In conclusion, telephones are more effective in our life than televisions. We cannot deny that they make our life better and it seems that many of us cannot live without them now.

The lecture apparently disproves what is argued in the reading material. According to the passage archaeology in Britain us faced with serious problems and limitations. However the professor asserts that a closer scrutiny of this argument would reveal how flimsy it is. He then presents several evidences to demonstrate his statement.

To begin with, the passage may be right about the growth of population causes many artifacts' destroyed, but one critical fact is left out of consideration. Pointed out by the professor, the author totally neglects the truth that a new guideline has been come up that if the construction site has archaeological value or interest after being examined by archaeologists, efforts will be made to preserve the site.On account of above-mentioned grave mistakes, the author’s assertion turned out to be a preposterous idea.

Furthermore, the professor mentions that the financial problem is solved by construction company. The reading passage fails to take into account that government is not the sole organization to support archaeological research in finance. Construction is a new source. This new funding source allows archaeologists to have a wider range of study so that they do not need to left hundreds of interesting projects.Therefore, the assertion of the author seems too absolute since other possibilities could not be eliminated by any current evidence.

Last but the least, the passage assumes that archaeologists are difficult to find jobs for the reason that there are few positions available. The professor, however, suggests that this condition has changed now. Archaeologists have many stages to show their value such as construction companies are willing to hire them to do researches. A plenty of opportunities offered to archaeologists so that the number of them increased to the highest ever been in Britain.On the basis of this point the lecture explicitly refutes the passage.

In conclusion, based on the arguments offered above, the professor clearly identifies the defects in the reading passage and forcefully shows that the science of archaeology doesn't face problems and limitation in Britain.
