标题: 请教it 指代问题 GMAT的老大难恳请大家帮助！
于是打开prep看了很多有it的题越看越混乱。。。
其中关于代词的指代问题: 在OG中经常会认为一个句子中如果出现两个以上上的复数名词,则复数代词

会出现指代不清的错误,然而在实战中是不能仅仅凭这一个准则来判断句子的正误.在指代原则中

有一条就近指代原则:当一个句子中出现两个以上的复数名词时,复数代词优先指代离它近的复数

名词,这条原则用样适用于单数名词. 也就是说多个单数名词，也要就近原则，看似上面那个问题就解决了。可是。。。。

244. (GWD-10-Q39)

In Japan, a governmentadvisory committee called for the breakup of Nippon Telephone and TelegraphCompany, the largest telephone company in the world, so it would be two local phonecompanies and one long-distance provider.

A. In Japan, a government advisory committee called for the breakup ofNippon Telephone and Telegraph Company, the largest telephone company in theworld, so it would be

B. The breakup of theworld's largest telephone company, Nippon Telephone and Telegraph Company, wascalled for by a government advisory committee in Japan, so it would be

C. A government advisorycommittee in Japan called for the breakup of Nippon Telephone and TelegraphCompany, the world's largest telephone company, into (C)

其中A,B的错误原因如下，
A. so it would be里的it指代歧义，本身应指代thelargest telephone company，但是这里指代了主语a government advisory committee，错误

B. it指代了breakup错误。

问题：如果这里的it的指代的主语默认是逻辑主语那不就是不是就近原则了么。。。到底什么时候it指代的是就近的最合适的单数名词性质的词，什么时候指代逻辑主语。
请大家帮忙下。。辛苦了。。。

“It” in A and B is grammatical ambiguous because “it” is subject of the second clause and it should refer to subject of the fist clause. This rule is more powerful than your rule, namely proximity.
However, even this rule is not rigid enough to eliminate A and B. For we have so many correct answers which violate this rule.

IE.
To meet the rapidly rising market demand for fish and seafood, suppliers are growing fish twice as fast as their natural growth rate, cutting their feed allotment by nearly half and raising them on special diets

A) their natural growth rate, cutting their feed allotment
B) their natural growth rate, their feed allotment cut
C) growing them naturally, cutting their feed allotment
D) they grow naturally, cutting their feed allotment
E) they grow naturally, with their feed allotment cut

The right choice is D.
In this sentence,
suppliers are growing fish twice as fast as they grow naturally
"They" should refer to "suppliers" according to grammatical parallelism rule. However it dose not.

The take away is we should not eliminate a choice only because the pronoun is  technically ambiguous and it's pretty much impossible to formulate simple rules about pronoun ambiguity.
Something else makes the choice wrong.

In A & B, the meaning is not logical.
A company will be tree companies.
Be is a linking word. It needs words before and after parallel with each other.  we can not parallel one company with another three companies.
In C, A company is broken up into tree companies. It expresses the intended meaning.

See the different? Even the difference is subtile, I think you can figure it out.

你好。我是这么理解你的话的。就是说1个公司变不了2个公司。逻辑上是错误的所以C 选项成立。对于IT的判断方法不能成为错误选项的依据。是这样的吗? 谢谢

I mean the meaning is correct，But it is better to say A company was broken up into three companies rather than A company BE three companies. The expression is wrong.
2/
Pronouns ambiguous is a method to eliminate only if you see clearly that the pronoun is a split between choices. IE choice A uses "it"; choice B used "the company".
I say this principle because Gmac are not consistent in pronoun ambiguous. They use pronoun ambiguous in their explanation about why the wrong choices are wrong. However, in correct answers you can also see lot of exceptions which violate the rule.

Thus, you need to find out something else to eliminate the wrong choice when the pronouns is not a obvious split. Otherwise, you are very likely to eliminate the right choice in the first place.

今天也在想到底是不是it的问题
看到了RON的帖子
和上面一位楼主的解释一样
RON同样认为是intended meaning的问题，并不是代词指代模糊的问题

我觉得用there比较好吧这里用it不觉得奇怪吗...

我也同意ron的说法，判断ambiguity要看是否真的存在模糊，根据common sense，这里说it有可能指代committee的嫌疑很牵强。

technically yes, but, that sort of pronoun ambiguity is not a criterion on which you can eliminate; there are many, many officially correct sentences with technically ambiguous pronouns like that one.
