这题的正确答案是C，但我认为C中that指代临近的词 conversation，因此错了，我的理解错在哪呢？

定语从句可以跳跃指代，只要往前跳的时候没有跳过谓语动词，就算对
本题中，固定搭配conceive of A as B，所以DE错
conceive动词优于conception，且A的句子实际上是M's conception was a substitute，错
BC中，B的but需要前后平行，but which中后半句的which在but之前找不到与之平行的which，所以错

如果可以跳跃指代的话，那么我怎么清楚它到底指代的是哪个名次呢，我会觉得它指代不明而判定为错误答案，这又怎么解决呢

理论上来说，which的跳跃指代是一个不太好，但是不是必然错的结构，选项中如果有就近指代的which还是要就近，除非就近指代的句子错的离谱，那么你再考虑跳跃指代。

跳跃指代要对的最低要求是，指代的词不能跳过主句的谓语动词，也就是说主句谓语动词之后的都可以被which指代。

which跳跃指代指的是谁，通常是根据which后面的动词单复数来判断，比如which is的话，你就去前面找个单数名词，然后把这个名词带到定语从句中，看是不是符合逻辑，如果which前面的主句有两个单数名词，且两个单数名词都在主句谓语动词之后，也就是说which指代哪一个都有可能的时候，这种情况就错了～

有一个稍微不太切题的例子，不过你可以看一下

Jobs requiring specific skill that are held by men

这里的that指代的是jobs,因为是that are，are是复数，你往前找复数名词只有jobs了，而不会找到skill
这其实是一个that are结构不能省略的例子，通常that are是赘余，但是在这里如果省略了that are，held会就近修饰skill，就曲解了原句的意思。当然，这里如果用that is，就说明that指代的是skill，那么that is就是赘余了

(D) Marconi conceived of the radio to be a tool for private conversation, a substitute for the telephone, which has become(conceive of……as……固定搭配)

(E) Marconi conceived of the radio to be a substitute for the telephone, a tool for private conversation, other than what it is, (conceive of……as……固定搭配)
