OG里的解释: moreover, the placement of in 1984 is awkward and confusing
我觉得不仅是1984的位置问题, 还有语叙的问题.
如果把C变成: and in 1984 forty-four percent was the figure 是不是逻辑还有问题呢?

请指教.

尽量不要换顺序或者修改GMAT的句子改错。OG说的是ETS的思路。

在本题意思表达都一样呢?

一点个人观点：

B选项：in 1984 对应In 1973，mortgage payments对应the figure

C选项：缺乏必要的对应

即使如你所改那样，你自己把它翻译成中文看看

改动前的C：..........，在1984年44%

改动后的C：.........，在1984年44%是那个数字

B：。。。。。。。，在1984年那个数字是44%

还是考虑语法太多了，注意句子整体意思和作者的意图

I think it is a traditional way to express, no special reason to explain.
