关于这道题，我想请教一下在定语从句中that什么时候可以省略的问题。
在我以前学过的语法知识里，应当是先行词充当从句的主语是不可以省略，充当宾语时可以省略。
在D选项中recession充当的是宾语，还原后应当是many were fearing the recession earlier in the year。因此这里recession后面的that应当是可以省略的。但是og（P725）对于D选项的解释中写道“The recession must be followed by that"。
我想请教一下各位大神，这里是什么原因呢？多谢。

怎么看B都不对，发现答案是A。。
因为that后面一串的文字都是confidence的内容，所以就是用that更好，

回答你的问题，我的确有看过that作宾语可省的正确选项

但一般都是say，think这类比较容易区分主从句的句子，所以楼主还是知道这些特例就行了，默认that不能省略吧，OG上永远是对的。
另外，这道题可以从其他方面排除D。我记得RON说过"confidence in sb/sth to do " is unidiomatic。还有rather的用法。
