B.there are fewer than one-quarter as many

C.there are fewer than one-quarter of that amount

D.the number is less than one-quarter the amount

E.it is less than one-quarter of that amount

个人选了C。
prep答案说是B。
google没查到，baidu有人说C有人说A。。就是没人说B。

求解释为什么是B。。。

4000是一个number，而amount是一个量词，不能指代4000。as many指代4000

这题主语是可数名词，所以用fewer 不用less，排除ADE
Amount 只能修饰不可数名词
Less than the amount of 不可数N
Fewer than the number of 可数N
As many 固定搭配用法 "twice as many", "one-quarter as many", etc. 常用修饰可数名词
There were once 20 shirts on this shelf, but, now, barely half as many are left.
There are barely half as many shirts on this shelf [i]as there were last week.
所以 fewer than one-quarter as many 是正确的
