解释上说The appearance of both is misleading, since only one point is being made about where Monk's musical roots are located.
不理解这是什么意思，为什么only one point is made?

lz要仔细看看句意。。
句子中说的work仅仅是rooted在stride-piano tradition这一个对象，后面的Willie (The Lion) Smith and Duke Ellington是修饰stride-piano tradition，所以解释才说只有one point，要是用了both...and...的话就把这个整体分割成stride-piano tradition of Willie (The Lion) Smith和Duke Ellington并列了，不合理。。

苏木解释的很好，另一方面如果来不及细想句子意思的话可以从结构上解释，一般both...and都是要求结构平行的，前面如果是both rooted in 的话后面也得是and rooted in,而不会直接是个人名
