NASA’s methodical approach to theexploration of Mars has not yet answered the questions of whether biologicallife forms ever emerged on Mars and whether, presuming such life formshaving left fossil traces to begin with, those traces can still exist insome moist recesses of the cold and arid planet.
这道题GWD上选C，可是我觉得presuming的逻辑主语是谁呢？难道是traces，我觉得B更好一点，但是B又有个can those traces,天哪，我该怎么说服自己啦

B. and whether, if it ispresumed that such life forms left some fossil traces to begin with, can those traces

这道题的考点是meaning，parallelism，modifier，pronoun！
根据meaning和parallelism判断and前后平行，必须使用whether，排除CD；
根据modifier的修饰，可知道having done不能作为定语修饰preceding noun，所以A错；
根据pronoun的指代，B中it无指代，if引导的句子整个结构no concise and awkward，排除B；
So，C is correct!
C中presuming表示假设，同楼上这是插入语。插入语不是modifier，不用考虑逻辑主语，这是百度的解释；在一个句子中间插入一个成分，它不作句子的何种成分，也不和句子的何种成分发生结构关系，同时既不起连接作用，也不表示语气；
一般adj, prep, to do, Ving, adv都可以作为插入语，这里是Ving作为插入语；举个例子就好理解了：
Generally speaking，the weather there is neither too cold in winter nor too hot in summer. 你感受下！
