标题: 一道gmat语法题请大神帮忙~
The first pulsar,or rapidly spinning collapsed star, to be sighted was observed in the summer of 1967 by graduate student JB,but the discovery was not announced until February 1968.
请问下为什么是to be sighted
为什么不直接用sighted

我不是大神。我觉得这里就是一个固定搭配，表示第一个做什么事的人或物的结构是：the first XXX to do sth. 比如：
1. 我是第一个来这儿的：I'm the first one to be here.

2. 他是第一个到达的：He is the first one to arrive.

参考了下Ron神的解释，这里主要有两点原因：
1. Noun to be verb-ed表示 human efforts/actions/interference/perception/etc.等的结果，而 noun verb-edinherent qualities of the noun；
2. 直接copy，理解了半天，很tricky！
the word 'sighted' means 'having the sense of sight', so this sentence also contains the amusing alternative interpretation of referring to a pulsar that can actually see.

RON的解释有点道理，但我有点小小的意见，我认为，to be done更多的在修饰中体现了人们的目的性和期望性。done则直接体现了被动。

白勇语法里有说过，关于不定式的：

名词前有last、next、序数词或者形容词最高级作定语时，名词后的定语必须用不定式，如： the first scientist to do some research on AIDS。

这个说法是错误的，因为当名词前为有last、next、序数词或者形容词最高级作定语时，后置定语可以为不定式，但也可以用定语从句。所以必须用不定式作定语的说法错误，至少这种说法太绝对。
