标题: 请教SC--GWD-TN-38 --GWD24
In 1852 Robert Angus Smith published a detailed report of the chemistry of rain kin a large area around the city of Manchester, England, noting that the closer one came to town, the more the city air would become increasingly acidic.
这道题选B，我选了E，因为我觉得前面的四个都不对……

关于noting是否一定带that的事情--
来自牛津词典的解释：
1.表示“注意到” that是可以省略的，不过如果note是被动语态（note为及物动词）时that不可省。
    ex：please note (that) the office will be closed on Monday.
2.表示“指出，特别提到”that“不可省--这里专指一个固定搭配:  it is worth noting that....

关于是否可以用would的问题，我看见很多帖子说不可以，因为有过去式……我对于这点是有疑问的：

我对于A的疑虑是more和increasingly重复；
B是the closer前面是否应该有连词？
C是coming closer to town 错误的修饰了the city air
D是因果倒置，the more应该就近修饰acidic
E没看出有什么问题，noting sth as +某原因  不可以吗？

请高手们不吝赐教……

本题应首先考虑的是不是the more.....,the more.....的结构。

那要看看了，因为我分析后，和后来看的答案上都是A。

仔细的分析了下，A的确错了，the more和increasingly重复，而且would不合适。也就只有B比较合适了。

the closer one came to town, the more the city air would become increasingly acidic。这句话后半句有歧义，more有修饰CA的嫌疑，意思为越近，就会有越多的空气，逻辑错误。c中the city 不能作为coming的逻辑主语。e无谓语动词，fragment。就剩下b了。b的结构也有点奇怪。。

不好意思，你的解释完全错误：
首先，你对A选项的分析错误，the closer one came to town, the more the city air would become increasingly acidic,是典型的比较状语结构 the more......,the more.......(详细知识点用请自行查阅相关语法资料)，而且，你对这句话的翻译也有错误，其意思应为：离城市越近，城市空气变的越酸。A的错误我在上面已经说明，the more和increasingly重复，而且would用在这里不合适。

其次，对E选项的分析，E选项是有谓语动词的，并不是fragment。它的错误在于city air becoming increasingly acidic as one would come closer to town， the more......,the more.......这一比较状语结构是不能被 as 比较结构来替代的，两者表达的逻辑意思完全不同。

这题本来就是争议题，a or b，其他论坛讨论很多都没有定论。刚在国外的forum发个，等待回复，到时可以一起参考下。

有关E选项我和你的看法有些许不一样，向你请教下。我觉得这里AS不是比较结构，应该是when的意思，the more... the more... 结构的意思被increasingly改写。E的问题有两个，一是as作为连词后面跟从句，应该跟句子而不是动名词修饰语  二是as one would come doser to town即有可能指向becoming也有可能指向noting，虽然指向noting完全说不通。不知道我说的对不对……

B。E选项在日常语法中挺好的，只是在GMAT里面直接note + city air就不可以，因为我们必须明确note的是city air越来越酸，而不是仅仅city air。

我觉得as 需要引导条件从句，而且as后也不加比较级。另外noting 后边叫sth doing也值得商榷
