标题: og13 sc 53

53. The nineteenth-century chemist Humphry Davy presented the results of his early experiments in his “Essay on Heat and Light,”a critique of all chemistry since Robert Boyle as well as a vision of a new chemistry that Davy hoped to found.

(A) a critique of all chemistry since Robert Boyle as well as a vision of a

(B) a critique of all chemistry following Robert Boyle and also his envisioning of a

(C) a critique of all chemistry after Robert Boyle and envisioning as well

(D) critiquing all chemistry from Robert Boyle forward and also a vision of

(E) critiquing all the chemistry done since Robert Boyle as well as his own envisioning of

a critique和a vision都是his “Essay on Heat and Light” 的同位语,critique在这里不是action noun而是描述一个作品的concrete noun

his doing  这种结构貌似在G里面就很不爽。。。。。。这里感觉his envisioning 和 visions 有一定区别  肯定有的  我觉得  但是我说不上来。。。。。。。

我的问题是这里的chemistry是化学家的意思吗? 还有A选项里的since Robert Boye是什么意思? 谢谢

曼哈顿上面对action noun的解释:Action nouns refer to actions, as their name implies. They are often formed from verbs.

我是这么理解的,仅供参考 :critique在这里的意思更偏向于“评论,文章”,而不是“批评”的名词。所以它不是动作名词。要注意不是有动词词根的词都叫动作名词(只是often),而是它本身表示的就是动词的含义,只是以名词形式呈现给你。
附上曼哈顿论坛上RON的解释:
[size=15.0015px]Suapplle wrote:Hi, instructors, sorry to bump up an old thread, in choice B, in the official explanation, "critique and his envisioning are not parallel", why they are not parallel? "critique" is an action verb, "his envisioning of ......" is a complex gerund, action verb and complex gerund can be parallel. maybe I am wrong, please clarify, thank you very much!

[size=14.007px]I don't have any idea what "complex gerund" means, so I will sidestep that part of the discussion.

[size=14.0084px]Parallelism is a RELATIVE decision"”a "beauty contest".

[size=14.007px]What you're doing"”trying to look at an [size=14.0084px]individual choice[size=14.007px] and judge whether it's "parallel""”is needlessly fraught.
[size=14.007px]Just [size=14.0084px]compare[size=14.007px].

[size=14.007px]* a critique ... a vision
[size=14.007px]* a critique ... his envisioning

[size=14.007px]There's a very clear winner and a very clear loser here.

[size=14.007px]Don't make this harder than it is.

以下是曼哈顿另一staff给的回答:
[size=14.007px]B sounds like he is critiquing his own envisioning. This is the parallelism problem with this one.
