A. Being able to predict the strength and the direction of an earthquake could save lives and million of property damage.
B The capability for predicting the strength and the direction of an earthquake would mean that lives are saved
C The ability to predict the strength and the direction of an earthquake would mean that lives are saved
D The ability of predicting the strength and the direction of an earthquake would mean that lives are saved
E The ability of predicting the strength and the direction of an earthquake could save lives





为什么A不对 . 记得好象没有ability of 的用法. E是错的吧

GWD4-27. 逻辑题就有类似的结构.

    有道理, 不过查了longman,好象没有ability of doing的用法

    Be able to多用在人



    From longman:


    Use can and be able to to say that someone has the ability to do something.



    GWD4-27有anyone可以be able to, jj则没有



    Google一把可以发现ability of doing sth是有的(though it seems like not a very formal usage)



    Moreover, model reliability is proved by its ability of predicting drug release from a known mixture of the above mentioned particles classes.



    综合以上两点E sounds better,欢迎再讨论

    我觉得这里用名词ability 比较好 根据逻辑意思 是这种能力可以挽救性命，只有E表达的非常的直接了然，清楚 简洁 so I prefer E

    大家查下google就知道，E的用法基本没有。

    所以A是正确的。但是到底是否可以save....damage.

    具体要看原题是怎么表述的。

    建议此贴转到语法区去。

    这道题到底选A还是E？


    根据刘振民语法书上说BE ABLE TO > ABILITY OF.应高选A。


    但根据语感，还是E好些。

    那就选a吧 到底没有神马大问题 耳e中of 是gmat所不能容忍的

    c有错吗？我选c.我觉得e逻辑有问题，不应该是这种能力（抽象名词）能够救人吧。
