标题: 求助帖，关于they的完全指代问题！
InJapan elderly people are treatedwith far greater respect than theyare in most Western countries
看到一个这样的说法： they  it their  them 都是完整指代，即指代包含了被指代对象的所有修饰成分？
想请问：  按上面这个说法， eg中的they 应该就是错误的啊，  因为用they的话，意思就变成了，  日本的老人得到了更多的尊重在日本比（日本的老人）在大多数西方国家得到的尊重还多。
请教各位，这里they到底有问题没。

那也就是说如果用 they 就变成了日本的老人在日本受到的尊重和日本的老人在西方国家受到的尊重比这样理解对吗？

不好意思啊，水平不太行。是要继续要努力，谢谢你的回答。
你给我的例句，我能理解 [1} in japan elderly people ...... than elderly peope ... in most western countires. 这个我知道是状语的比较，但会我的不明白的地方在于。如果我换成了 in japn elderly people .... than they .... in most western countries. 这句的意思和【1】还会一样吗？我觉得如果换成 they了就意思变了，变成了日本老人在日本和日本老人在 western countries 的比较了。
水平有限，非常感谢你的指正。

呵呵，我也是菜鸟一枚，我的意思就是说因为在日本是状语，所以they 指代老年人，而不能指代日本老年人
