Q31
In the sixteenth century, the push for greater precision in measuring time was (not, like more recently, motivated by complicated philosophical questions about the nature of matter and the universe, but the practical matters of navigation):sailors simply needed more highly accurate timepieces in order to compute their longitude from the positions of the stars.
(E) motivated not by complicated philosophical questions about the nature of matter and the universe, as has been the case more recently, but by the practical matters of navigation
(E)是答案没问题,但(E)中: , as has been the case more recently, 在语法上如何透彻理解呢? as 是什么词性?

(E) motivated not by complicated philosophical questions about the nature of matter and the universe, as has been the case more recently, but by the practical matters of navigation
另外对E中的as has been the case more recently 还是很困惑阿

as has been the case more recently = as more recently the push for greater precision in measuring time has been motivated not by complicated philosophical questions about the nature of matter and the universe...
用 has been the case 概括了与主句相同的部分,类似的省略在比较句中也很多,OG和大全都有,一下找不出来,只记得大概是: 主 谓 宾(其中有比较级)than it was ten years ago.
此外,as be the case 我个人认为是ETS偏好.

E;
A-"...not, like more recently..." is incorrect style and usage;
B-"being" is unnecessary, "instead of" is better said as "rather than", plus, the structure of the sentence does not properly set the stage for the clause that follows the colon;
C-"like they were more recently" introduces a pronoun reference problem as "the push for greater precision" is singular, but "they" is plural;
D-structure does not correctly set-up the terminal dependent clause.
E gets it right.
我觉得as has been the case more recently很可能是个倒装,未倒前是as the case has been more recently,用the case这个新名词来指前面整个这句话。
John was taken completely by surprise by the news, as was Susan.

但是as has been the case --> the case指的是motivated by complicated ......还是motivated not by.....
