这道题选对了，看各位讨论的主要是with结构，我这里倒不是这块有问题，而是关于C选项中的scientists' assuming，解析上说assuming + possessive这个结构unwarranted，想请教各位NN，为什么这种结构不好？是类似于Manhattan上说的能用动词就尽量不用形容词或者名词的道理吗？谢谢各位啦~~

个人觉得有几个原因，第一个是assuming完全可以用assumption，第二个这种结构在GMAT中有可能会造成歧义。

C项能够体会出：要explain科学家的假设；D项则是要解释为什么科学家已经提出了这个假设。两者是语义上是有一点差别的。而原句的意思是要表达后者。而GMAT比较强调concise和precise，所以这就是manhattan为什么会说能用从句，而不要尽量用形容词或名词

thx!！仔细读了一下，CE就assuming与why assumed that还是有区别的，确实如您所说，C在说解释科学家们的一个assuming而E则在说assume的动机是什么。受教了~
