25.

The end of the eighteenth century saw the emergence of prize-stock breeding, with individual bulls and cows receiving awards, fetching unprecedented prices, and excited enormous interest whenever they were put on show.

(A) excited

(B) it excited

(C) exciting

(D) would excite

(E) it had excited

the correct answer is C which I understand.

The end of the eighteenth century,而没有意义,排除。

如果与receiving and fetching平行, 则该用 exciting, 主语为individual bulls and cows ,有意义,是正确选项。

The end of the eighteenth century excited
