manhattan第四版104页，讲过去完成时的时候有这么一句话： Also note that the later past event does not need to be expressed with a Simple Past tense verb. You could just use a date or another time reference.
不明白这是什么意思，有童鞋知道的能举个例不？

这句话的意思是，过去完成时态不一定要用过去时态来决定，也可以由表示过去的时间状语来决定。
example:
由 过去时态来决定：
the construction of temple had finished before the English attacked the empire.
由 时间状语来决定。
the construction of temple had finished before the early 1780s.
early 1780s 已经是过去了，而 construction finish在 ealry 1780s 之前， 所以也用过去完成时。作者: 捉妖 时间: 2013-3-29 12:22
