答案是E选项，可是“a household nuisance but a time-honored experimental subject” 不是应该修饰主语“The study”吗？只有加which或者that才可以修饰后面的名词？

E中的，“a household nuisance but a time-honored experimental subject”是以同位语的成分出现的，直接解释（修饰）其就近的名词。
1）which和that是可以修饰前面的名词，但是属于定语从句范畴，通常后面接的是句子。
2）通常同位语的出现是以词组出现的
3）纠结于为何不需要that,which修饰的话，你就看类似”a household nuisance but a time-honored experimental subject“这种词组是对前面的解释还是限定。解释的话，用2）；限定的话把句子补全加that/which等
