标题: 小问题，，关于less，，求解答
直接进入正题！

我在溪予语法上看到：less 可数、不可数都可以
但是好像我们从小学就开始被教是less用于不可数，fewer用于可数了。。

而且有prep题目解析就是说less用于不可数，但是有的词典上less仍然用于可属名词呢。。。
纠结。。。。。。
好心人可以解答下么~~不少题目都出现这个问题呢~

还有个小问题就是如果是the first shots/trenches（名词复数形式）+v 的话，，动词是用单数还是复数形式呢？？

第一个问题，我建议你多看看OG和manhattan这两个教材中关于less的解释，毕竟GMAT有它自己对英语语法的见解。OG13-9这道题提到less和fewer，明确写道less修饰可数，fewer修饰不可数。
我觉得the first shots/trenches应该跟复数动词，因为句子的主语是shots/trenches，the first只是修饰shots/trenches的。

分享Few of 与less of的用法（从Manhattan，Ron那来的；具体哪道题记录的忘记了）
例如fewer of those pollutants and less of those pollutants have different meanings.
1）the former（few of those pollutants） means that, if you made lists of the pollutants from each of the two sources, then one of the lists would be missing pollutants that were on the other list.
2）the latter（less of those pollutants） means that both lists would contain the same pollutants, but that the quantities would be lower on one side.
第二个问题的话，the first shots/trenches（名词复数形式）+v 的话，，动词是用复数形式。
估计你是对OG的那个trenches的题目好奇，那里是which were cut，之所以使用cut，是因为过去分词表被动，简洁而不歧义。

啊，，，恕我不才，，这个意思是不是理解为fewer of 用于数目不一样的，less of 用于数目一样但是总量不一样的。。。但是，，，好奇怪的说啊，，，，

我的理解是这样的：
1）the former（few of those pollutants） means that, if you made lists of the pollutants from each of the two sources, then one of the lists would be missing pollutants that were on the other list.
两个子集，分别为A和B
A包含了：1,2,3,4,5,6
B包含了：1,2,3
The number in B is fewer of those number in A
同理：pollutants分为两个子集，
Pollutants 1: N, O, A, B, R
Pollutants 2: N, A, O
这里应该属于包含于被包含的关系
2）the latter（less of those pollutants） means that both lists would contain the same pollutants, but that the quantities would be lower on one side.
两个子集，分别为A和B
A包含了：1,1,1,2,2,2,2,3,3
B包含了：1,1,1,2,2,3
由于子集里包含的数字都是一样的，但是所不同的是他们同一元素的数目不同
这个时候就使用：The number in B is less of those numbers in A.
同理转换成pollutants的话，
Pollutants 1: N, N,N,E,E,E,E
Pollutants 2:N, N, E,E
Pollutants 2所含的浓度要比Pollutants 1的浓度要低，则：pollutants 2 less of those pollutants 1.
说到这的时候，忽然觉得应该less of是对元素一样的样本，比较的是样本之间的质量。
说得抽象了，等待高手纠正- -

few of the pollutants是指的污染物的种类；less of the pollutants指的是污染物的数量

呵呵，过奖。
所以原则上few修饰可数，less修饰不可数，跟中学教科书上说的一样。但是有时有例外，根据句意的不同就会有像few of the pollutants和less of the pollutants同时正确的情况出现。希望这样的解释能回答LZ的问题

童鞋，你这里例子举得真的挺好，刚才我搜了cd上很多关于less和fewer的问题（之前我咋就没想到在cd上搜呢。。。傻了，，，

）大家和你的说法都一样，我感觉你的还挺形象的！！谢谢！！！

即就是：
Fewer种类少
Less 量少
less of certain pollutants:表明有害物质的量。less在此表示不可数。
fewer of certain pollutants:表明有害物质的种类，fewer表示可数，如含有CO,SO2，或者还有其它的有害物质。

刚好在搜这题，把原题po上来，

Because natural gas is composed mostly of methane, a simple hydrocarbon, vehicles powered by natural gas emit less of certain pollutants than the burning of gasoline or diesel fuel.
(A) less of certain pollutants than the burning of gasoline or diesel fuel
(B) fewer of certain pollutants than burning gasoline or diesel fuel do
(C) less of certain pollutants than gasoline or diesel fuel
(D) fewer of certain pollutants than does burning gasoline or diesel fuel
