标题: 求教og13 111题 it is rare 和rarely 的区别
A mutual fund having billions of dollars in assets will typically invest that money in hundreds of companies, rarely holding more than one percent of the shares of any particular corporation.

(A) companies, rarely holding more than one percent
(B) companies, and it is rare to hold at least one percent or more
(C) companies and rarely do they hold more than one percent
(D) companies, so that they rarely hold more than one percent
(E) companies; rarely do they hold one percent or more

og对b选项的解释是： it is rare instead of rarely could be misleading 对这句不是很理解。。这两个词在意思上有什么差别呢

我认为it is rare..rare变成了修饰mutual fund而不是hold这个动作了。就好像在说mutual fund is rare所以它对每个公司持股都不超过1%，但是原句并没有这个意思在内。

可是如果是it is rare 的话 it 做形式主语 rare修饰不定式啊也说得通嘛

其实B选项是改变了原句的逻辑含义： rarely holding more than one percent——是作为状语修饰前句，是主从关系；而and it is rare to hold at least one percent or more——改变成并列句，修饰关系别变成并列关系。其实B选项整体的表达方式就是很奇怪的，more than 1%与at least 1% or more含义是不同的，而且根据逻辑含义it is rare to do确实是形式主语，但是实际上is rare to do是修饰主语mutual fund的，即使变成并列句，这个it也是多余的，前后并列主语相同，后句的主语应省略

正是由于 it 做形式主语，那么真正的主语就是to hold at least one percent or more。。。。。。。，如果换成正确的语序就是To hold at least one percent or more。。。。。。is rare 。加上B选项的形式又是并列，那么前后两句就没有任何逻辑关联了，与句意完全不符。

rarely可以理解为几乎不，而rare不具有这层否定的意思
