OG12 139题
The company announced that its profits declined much less in the second quarter than analysts had expected it to and its business will improve in the second half of the year.
A
B had excepted and that its business would improve
C expepted it would and that it will improve its business
D expected them to and its business would improve
E expected and that it will have improved its business

这题选B我没有疑问，我想问的是expect的省略
如果这个比较句要补全的话than analysts had expected them to decline 和 than the profits analysts had expected 哪个对啊？
（看了一些国外的论坛说to后的deline不可以省因为前面句子没有出现，只出现了declined）
感觉这两种情况expect做不同的成分啊，前面一个是动词，后面是定语吧。
请哪位NN能帮我具体分析一下啊，想了一个晚上想不明白好难受啊。
另外我google了一下than expected，没有看到有补出to的，所以说人家一般都这么用，那这种省略的语法根据是什么啊？
谁来教教我吧！

先说国外论坛上看到的观点吧， expect to 后面如果没有动词了，那么可能会 expect to decline，也可能 expect to increase，也就是to后面这个动词不能省，要不就说不清了。

I earn money more than you do = I earn money more than the money you earn.

比较级到底比的是什么？题中比的就是profits，所以than the profits analysts had expected 中analysts had expected 是修饰profits的

不同意你的观点

首先第一条，increase根本没在句中出现过，被省略的词要在句中以exactly the same form出现过，按题目意思省略的是decline，可是decline在前面也没出现过，只出现了declined，所以这题用expected to这种省略是不对的。如果有可能补increase，岂不是随便什么词都能补？！

第二点，查了一下than是可以作prep 或者 conj的，所以我认为作prep得时候像你说的是比较profit，than the profits analysts had expected，但是作conj得时候连接的是句子，than sb had expected them to decline我觉得也是可以的。

个人感觉貌似比较的是下降的程度

太久没看SC真心生疏= =

不过我觉得这问题不必纠结

当成than usual这一类的习惯用法就好了

应试型备考当然走效率最高的路子~

补出是补them did (declined)吧，嘟嘟哥。

前面没出现同形的实意动词的时候后面也可以用助动词来代替，ron已经说要修改manhattan那本书了。

大N你太谦虚了~ 这个问题我当时也纠结过，网上没有很好地解答，最后就去找论文，结果论文上讲这个问题本来就是很有争论的，各种补全形式的都有，补SUBJECT+VERB,补it is形式的也有，当时那篇论文给了一个超级专业的解释，各种专业术语，真心看不懂啊~~所以我觉得当成than ususal这类习惯用法是理解最好的方法了~ 貌似BAT版主关于比较的总结里也是这么理解的~

its profits declined much less in the second quarter than the profits analysts had expected

profits declined much less 怎么能和一个实体noun比较呢？都应该是clause对比，显然是than analysts had expected them to do so
