选项a中有句解释不太理解
The agent or cause of reducing is unclear.
除却-that的区分点，a选项中用comma+Ving满足了Ron所说：
the "comma + ing" modifiershould only be used when:
(A)
it MODIFIES THE ENTIRE ACTION of the preceding clause, and it APPLIES TO THE SUBJECT of that clause;
AND
(B)
one of the following is true:
(1) the "ing" action is SIMULTANEOUS with, and SUBORDINATEto, the main action;
- i ran down the sidewalk, flapping my arms wildly
(2) the "ing" action is a DIRECT AND IMMEDIATE CONSEQUENCE ofthe main action.
- i got a 100 on the most recent exam, bringing my average up to 91
since COMMA + -ING clauses are automatically attributed to the SUBJECTof the preceding clause, this modifies the moon.
as it clearly should, in context.

已经是表示前面suffer an event的结果，这句还是使用that+verb更优吗？

LZ，我想您有两个基本问题要搞明白：

1，在本题中，前一句哪个是主句，哪一个是从句？

2，在reducing。。。中，哪个是逻辑主语？

搞清楚这两个基本问题后，我想您应该明白为什么不选A了。

ancestor是主语，如果用Ving，那么reducing的逻辑主语也必须是ancestor。这样就不合理~

ancestor是主语，如果用Ving，那么reducing的逻辑主语也必须是ancestor。这样就不合理~

。。。。。看来，您还是没明白。
A选项中，greatly reducing their numbers。。。。作状语，它的逻辑主语必须与主句主语相一致，也就是说 Some anthropologists 在形式上应该是主语，greatly reducing their numbers 应修饰Some anthropologists believe。。。。表示结果。但这样一来，它的逻辑意思就会狗屁不通了。这就是A选项错的原因。

PS：建议您在基本语法上多下些功夫。

首先，comma+v-ing用法不是修饰主句，而是修饰前一个句子，也就是是从句也可以
其次，comma+v-ing有一种用法是修饰前面整个句子，作为伴随结果，无逻辑主语，那么这里这种用法为什么不对？

首先，逗号+v-ing如果做结果状语，他修饰的对象一定是整个句子，不可以是单独的一个从句

我来分析一下这道题目：that的用法很tricky，而且第一次做的时候我没有注意到，所以我太跳过that这个点

A：逗号+reducing：三种可能：结果状语/伴随状语/不必要的名词的修饰成分
结果状语：科学家认为....是....的结果，导致了人数的下降？不合逻辑
伴随状语：主句主语，这些科学家，更不合逻辑
不必要的名词的修饰成分：一个名词的修饰成分，必要与否要看被修饰的名词是否可以从很多可能性中被辨别出来，也就是说被修饰的名词是否是唯一的；如果是，那么后面的修饰成分可以是不必要的；如果不是唯一的，那么后面就一定要加上一个必要的修饰成分
本题，逗号+reducing前面是an event；可以对唯一性问个问题：哪个事件减少了祖先的数量？an event？很明显，an event不是唯一的，所以，an event后面要加上必要的修饰成分，也就是说an event与reducing之间那个逗号是必须去掉的
那么，三种可能都不存在，A这个逗号+reducing的修饰必然就是错误的

C：some time前少了at，导致语意不合逻辑；同时最后的so that...and...不平行
D：同C
E：同C；而且so as to这个固定搭配一般认为是错误的。
