答案是E。为什么A不对呢？我理解的是技术的应用使科学家确定····，E选项appling应该是个动名词，语法上不应该是名词优于动名词吗？

您说的那个名词优于动名词是在需要用名词时，如果动词本身有自己的名词形式则用名词，而不再使用动名词，而且啊，可真没有名词优于动名词这么一说，最多的concision原则是：动词优于名词，而且这里的applying是动名词放在句首作状语，这是哪跟哪呀。
