In the modern society, more and more parents care about their children's education quality and there is a certain suggestion that we should connect the teachers' salaries with the students' academic performance. While this institution has some advantages to promote students' score, it may bring some obvious negative influence to our education.
Admittedly, making connection between teachers' salaries and students' performance can directly raise the teachers' responsibility. For example, in order to help students who have bad performance in certain discipline and gain a comprehensive improvement of all students, teachers may spend their spare time voluntarily on helping these guys.
However, evaluating the teachers' work according to their students' performance and pay them based on this assertion can obviously bring some disadvantages, which can even decrease the quality of education. Firstly, emphasizing too heavily on the students' academic performance, usually reflected by exam result, can lead to population of exam-oriented education. Regardless the knowledge learning and capability enhancement, exam-oriented only focus on the final score of students, which is useless to actual problem resolving in our lives. For example, under this education guideline, some students with excellent academic performance but low capacity are founded all over the country. They can make little benefit to our development of society but gain high marks in exams which obeys original goal of education. Secondly, establishing solid connection between students' performance and their teachers' salaries can dramatic harm teachers' creative aspiration and capability. Since original work done by teachers is no longer cherished by the evaluation criteria, there is need for them to spend additional time on teaching methodology research, which can absolutely impede the progress of education.
Furthermore, teachers may pay more attention to the students' short-term performance and overlook their long-term training. For example, in order to gain higher mark in the exam, only the relative knowledge and problem resolving skills will be mentioned in their lessons. Even though the student get idealistic result, their eye-sight is not broaden which has no assistance to their later education.
In conclusion, although making connection between teachers' salaries and students' academic performance can directly provoke the teachers' enthusiasm, it may lead to long-term and potential harmfulness to students' learning and problem resolving capacity.
