Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position.
With the development of technology and science, more and more fields are tightly connected together, so that taking a variety of courses outside the student's field of study is good for students to enhance their education. But unfortunately, this strategy is not universal applicable to all students in University.
First of all, encouraging students to take part in a variety of courses outside the student's field is sometimes useful. On one hand, it can broad the students' ken and promote the comprehensive capability of them. This is especially valuable for someone who wants to be an academic researcher in the future. On the other hand, it can also accelerate the fusion of different fields and then some tremendous discovery could be made with the cooperation from several disciplines.
However, taking a variety of courses outside the student's field does not always work for every student. Some special disciplines, such as astronomy, are particularly different from others, so little connection could be made among them. If students' in these fields are forced to take other courses outside this field, they may get little help to improve their professional study. Imaging a student of astronomy joining a literature writing course to learn how to evaluate traditional literature works of China, what is the benefit of this course for the student’s major.
Furthermore, some disciplines, such as medicine, have a lot of tasks for their students to finish. Duo to this reason, they may have little time to spend on other courses outside their major. Even though, if some mandatory policy is approved to force student to obey, some negative influence on their major study could be generated. Their study quality and productivity will decrease, which is opposite to the author's original goal. This kind of time wasting activities should be avoided to let students have enough time focusing on their favorite major field. Meanwhile, the additional course study outside their major will absolutely make students much more tired than before, which can highly probable cause serious psychological problems of young adults.
In conclusion, while taking a variety of courses outside the student's field can help student to integrate their synthesized knowledge framework and let them have broader eye sight, this suggestion is not useful and effective for all the students in any fields. So mandatory policy made by the University is not plausible and it is better to let students make decision by themselves according to their favor and study situation.
