题目：
In a review of 2,000 studies of human behavior that date back to the 1940s, two Swiss psychologists, declaring that since most of the studies had failed to control for such variables as social class and family size, none could be taken seriously.

我没想通从句为什么要用过去完成时，难道不应该用现在完成时吗？

动作是发生在主句动作的一般过去式之前，用过去完成时态，中学语法。

declared是发生在failed之后的，是发生了实验的失败之后才宣布的，也就是说在declared前的时间轴上就是fail所处的位置

declared的时间轴是在过去的某一点，那理所当然的fail就是在declared的前面，也就是过去的过去

啊，好像看出来了，是不是这样分析

从句中：

缩减句子就是：

借用一下你的帖子，看不懂最后一个comma是为什么？“, none could be taken seriously.” 这个算状语？

A. In a review of 2,000 studies of human behavior that date back to the 1940s, two Swiss psychologists(主语）, declaring that since most of the studies had failed to control for such variables as social class and family size（Comma + -ing是状语，修饰前面的subject）, none could be taken seriously

所以A选项缺少和主语two Swiss psychologists逻辑一致的谓语。

og的解释没有很懂，里面有 failed in not controlling for...is awkward and does not mean the same thing as fialed to control for.那fail in和fail to两种有什么不同呢？
还有，
the expression such...like... in incorrect, the correct usage is such...as...正确用法不应该是such as...么？会有such...as...这种用法么？与such as...有什么不同？可以适用于这道题目么？（因为自己看见such...as...觉得是错误搭配直接排除了。。。= =）

说点题外话，关于你说到”正确用法不应该是such as...么？会有such...as...这种用法么？“

在中国中学课本，基本上看到的such as 都是紧挨着出现的，于是乎也许在OG里，第一次看到such as 是分开的，以前没有看到过，而且事先潜意识里就被误导觉得such as 一定要连在一起才对。我觉得这种想法太武断了，我们以前学到的，可以说是对的，但不代表和它不同的就一定是错的。

嗯，我后来也做到多个关于such...as....分开的题目。这样的用法也算对的。。。受高中语法影响太大。。。以为是固定词组不能拆开呢。。= =

fail in dong , fail in attempt to do; fail to do sth

fail in not controlling for, 不等于 fail to control。 fail 的意思是做什么事失败了，本身已经包含了一层否定意思，如果再加一个not,相当于双重否定，意思就成了succeed in controlling，与题目意思相反，所以是错误的。

fail 已经暗含失败了意思，但是不能说加了not就是双重否定吧，只能是说很awkward吧。

就像中文里你不能说书香门第之家因为书香门第已经包括了家的概念。
