The difficulty with the proposed high-speed train line isthat a used plane can be bought for one-third the priceof the train line, and the plane, which is just as fast, can fly anywhere. The train would be a fixed linearsystem, and we live in a world that is spreading out inall directions and in which consumers choose the freewheelsystems (cars, buses, aircraft), which do nothave fixed routes. Thus a sufficient market for the train will not exist. Which of the following, if true, most severely weakensthe argument presented above? (A) Cars, buses, and planes require the efforts ofdrivers and pilots to guide them, whereas thetrain will be guided mechanically. (B) Cars and buses are not nearly as fast as thehigh-speed train will be. (C)Planes are not a free-wheel system becausethey can fly only between airports, which areless convenient for consumers than the high speedtrain’s stations would be. (D) The high-speed train line cannot use currentlyunderutilized train stations in large cities. (E ) For long trips, most people prefer to fly ratherthan to take ground-level transportation.
OG解释也是说要去找能够challenge原题中定义flying是一种free-wheel systems的选项。正确选项C开头就说“Planes are not a free-wheel system ”。

Journalist: In physics journals, the number of articlesreporting the results of experiments involving particle accelerators was lowerlast year than it had been in previous years. Several of the particleaccelerators at major research institutions were out of service the year beforelast for repairs, soit is likely that the low number of articleswas due to the decline in availability of particle accelerators.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously undermines the journalist’s argument?
(A) Every articlebased on experiments withparticle accelerators that was submitted for publication last year actually waspublished. (B) The average time scientists must wait for access toa particle accelerator has declined over the last several years. (C) The number of physics journals was the samelast year as in previous years. (D) Particle accelerators can be used for more than onegroup of experiments in any given year. (E) Recent changes inthe editorial policies of several physics journals have decreased thelikelihood that articles concerning particle-accelerator research will beaccepted for publication.
找到反例了!!!
看上面B选项,og的官方解释是:a decling in waiting time would seem to promote more articles about accelerator research being written and published, not fewer. 即B选项是在对argument中的一个premise进行质疑。我们要找的是对conclusion进行质疑的选项。
