the n (先行词) of n. that V.从句的谓语修饰先行词N. 一般来说,OF 之前的次是先行词, 但有时OF 之后的N 也可以做THAT 从句的先行词(从逻辑上判断)


例: OG-06. In virtually all types of tissue in every animal species, dioxin induces the production of enzymes that are the organism's attempt to metabolize, or render harmless, the chemical irritant



   The production of enzymes that are the organism’s 显然,这句从句的先行词是enzymes. 我觉得 The production is the organism’s attempt to…比enzymes are the attempt 逻辑正确.



再看一个例子:


   styles of furniture and fixtures that 哪个是先行词?

styles of furniture and fixtures that的that应该是styles，不然that如果指向of后，有可能会指向furniture and fixtures 或fixtures，这样就会有歧异。作者不应该这样用。

yes, I the "are " indicates the enzymes is the referent. However, if we put enzymes to the clause, we can get : enzymes are the attempts, this seems not logical.


That's why I questioned as above.
