标题: 求问一个很基础问题！！！！！！
S.V.O , saying that S.V.O. 谁能解释下这为啥不是run-on 句型，不是两句话必须得有连词连接吗？后面从句也是一句话啊。还有saying在这是做什么成分的？多谢！

不会是run on sentence的，run on sentence 一般来说是两个完整的主谓宾或主系表句子，中间只用逗号隔开，这里saying 从句显然没有完整的主谓宾或主系表嘛~~所以不是。
run on sentence 还有一个比较特别的是S1 V1 O1 and it V2 O2的情形，即前后两句的主语一样，但后句用it 替换掉主语。正确的形式应该是S1 V1 O1 and V2 O2.
至于", Ving"就是传说中的独立主格了~~根据不同的语境有三种用法：
1、非限制性修饰就近名词
2、作伴随状语修饰谓语动词
3、表示前面整个句子的immediate consequence
2and3两种情况下要求这个Ving的逻辑主语与句子主语一致
（to be discussed）
PS如果LZ有题目的话，建议把题目贴全了~~~更方便大家有针对性的分析~~

就是一个“伴随状语”或者是“结果状语”——但是以saying来说应该是伴随状语（修饰作用亲）

原句是：Last week local shrimpers held a news conference to take some credit for the resurgence of the rare Kemp's ridley turtle, saying that their compliance with laws requiring turtle-excluder devices on shrimp nets is protecting adault sea turtles.(prep08 178) 非常感谢！对，确实是伴随状语，但是还是不太清楚“, saying that +加一句话” 没有连接词如何连接一个从句和主句呢，还有分词加从句可以做状语吗？好像很常见但仔细一想想不通了。。。

原句是：Last week local shrimpers held a news conference to take some credit for the resurgence of the rare Kemp's ridley turtle, saying that their compliance with laws requiring turtle-excluder devices on shrimp nets is protecting adault sea turtles.(prep08 178)很感谢啊！不过貌似不是独立主格，如果是的话saying前应该有个不同于主句主语的名词吧。还有我记得逗号加ving应该不能就近修饰吧，好像只有你说的后两条，如果就近修饰的话,逗号应该去掉比较合理吧(欢迎讨论)

句式就是：Last week local shrimpers held a conference …, saying that their compliance … is protecting没问题的啊，亲不用纠结，这种用法是没有问题的。。。其实that后面就是从句，前面的你可以当做是主句，用saying that过度

这题的absorbing the energy of crashing wave and protecting the beaches如果作状语（前提是逻辑主语要和句子主语一样对吧），那逻辑主语就是the Army Crops of Engineers 了！不合理吧！所以呢，这里只能是作定语，跳跃修饰a breakwater of rocks
当然这题可能比较特别……

谢谢你这么认真~~~不过这题我觉得哈，v-ing如果做状语其逻辑主语不一定是主句主语，一般应该是所修饰分句的主语，比如这里absorbing...and protecting...其逻辑主语是a breakwater of rocks，但是他是主句proposed...这个动作的结果,所以它应该是结果状语吧。你也可以参考一下08语法笔记的188题解释

absorbing 还是做状语，是对从句that would rise six feet above the waterline and act as a buffer 的修饰，其主语是 that ( a breakwater of rocks ).
