Laws requiring the use of headlights during daylight hours can prevent automobile collisions[c1]. However, since daylight visibility is worse in countries farther from the equator, any such laws would obviously be more effective in preventing collisions in those countries. In fact. the only countries that actually have such laws are farther from the equator than is the continental United States.[c2]

这是逻辑里面的一个题。划线部分countries到底是离赤道比离美国远还是countries离赤道比美国离赤道远。。。。。。。
因为有个例子。i eat more apple than you。这句话不对。要i eat more apple than do you。或者i eat more apple than you do。才对。这句话这里因为是动词所以很好区分，上面的是BE动词，怎样区分。

一瞬间就懂了。如果是离赤道比美国远应该用are不用is。但是忽略这个问题，应该如何区分？

是the only country that actually have such laws 和 the continental United States 比，前者离赤道更远。
