因为“ gradually reduce the number of automobiles on Birangi’s roads”
所以即使D对也不能得出结论
E很好的strengthen了结论，试想如果Birangi平均每一千个人只有一辆车，而平均每100个人就有一家有很多污染的工厂

E的意思是车的刮削物引起的空气污染可以忽略不计，敲破脑袋也想不出和原文有何关系。

Thanks! I thought the meaning of "scapping" as "the discarded (gas etc.)" at the beginning.

我觉得是废料，拆下来的废铁什么的

E的意思是说：报废汽车造成的污染很小。所以答案肯定不是E。应该是D。D是说汽车用的油更多了（效率低了），造成污染当然也就更大了。

我原先是选E的，把scrapping看成了汽车的排放物，由于汽车排放物对空气污染的影响很小，所以即使由于高额的汽车税减少了汽车的总数量，也对改进空气污染的情况没有促进作用。也就是有可能有其他原因造成城里空气污染严重。

但是仔细想想D似乎也有道理。D说当汽车使用年代越久，汽车燃料的效率下降，因此对空气污染更多。由于高税收只能对新买的汽车产生阻碍作用，相对老车，新车的污染相对较小，这样，减少新车对空气污染的改进也没有太大的作用，也支持了专家的论断。

矛盾中……

我开始也是选E，但仔细想想，D理解是没有疑问的，肯定是support, 但对E scrap的理解，大家是有分歧的，因此，最终还是支持D

支持D，scrapping 没有“废物，废料”的意思，就算在俚语里有这样的意思，gmat 也不会考的

scrap的意思是东西刮了表面的（油漆）等。。。和原文毫无关系，纯属凑数的！

我选择的也是E，这个the scrapping of 我查了一下，是汽车报废的意思。那么E的选项就可以理解为：汽车报废产生的污染

一开始我做的时候不知道scrapping是什么意思，选了还以为是这个汽车排放的污染不是污染空气的主要来源。。。
