Over the last 40 years there has been a great increase not only in the number of agricultural pesticides in use but also in the care and sophistication with which they are used by farmers. B.用农药得不偿失；C.observe their fields more closely，隐含的结果应该是杀得更多了，排除；E.农药对人类和牲畜的影响，与题目无关；答案B

杀虫剂更有效。虫子造成的损失却增加了
b很好的解释了这个矛盾杀虫剂贵所以宁愿被虫吃也不买杀虫剂了
