Q14:
The single-family house constructed by the Yana, a Native American people who lived in what is now northern California, was conical in shape, its framework of poles overlaid with slabs of bark, either cedar or pine, and banked with dirt to a height of three to four feet.
A. banked with dirt to a height of
B. banked with dirt as high as that of
C. banked them with dirt to a height of
但A中 to a height of three to four feet并不是dirt的高度,而是指framework 的高度,这是不可理喻的,
D中 as high as...

banked with dirt to a height of强调了bank这个动作的结果:framework被垫高到3-4feet
banked with (dirt as high as 3-4 feet) as high as
我觉得D最大问题,除了逻辑意思外,把its framework of poles overlaid with slabs of bark放在中间.
支持A。
另外D中用 as high as three to four feet, 就是说 three to four feet 的概念就是 high,但实际上 three to four feet 只是一个中性的表述。而且前言中有conical in shape的结构,A中的banked (with dirt) to a height 看上去蛮对称的。
http://www.gilanet.com/amerabo/ishipage.htm
也就是说后面的成分its framework of poles overlaid with slabs of bark, either cedar or pine, and banked with dirt to a height of three to four feet. banked with dirt的对象其实是framework of poles
此外,如果D,was banked修饰House的话,似乎离修饰对象太远,和前面的its framework of poles overlaid with slabs of bark, either cedar or pine, and不太连贯.
哈哈,俺觉得应该是A啊,一读起来就琅琅上口,its framework of poles overlaid with slabs of bark, either cedar or pine, and banked with dirt to a height of three to four feet.

banked with dirt to a height of 3-4 feet 修饰framework, 且和overlaid...平行。
D中,was banked with...
I think A is best !

The house was conical in shape, its framework of poles overlaid with bark and banked with dirt to a height of three to four feet.
A. banked with dirt to a height of
B. banked with dirt as high as that of
C. banked them with dirt to a height of

哪位NN也来看看这道题目,我选择的是D,主要觉得to a height of这个用法太奇怪了。
I am as high as seven feet. ==> Correct.
But how can we say
I am to a height of seven feet???
Thanks,
Demon Hunter
一开始选了D,还是支持a吧,毕竟banked with和overlaid with多平行的,还有AND.
A. banked with dirt to a height of banked
A. banked with dirt to a height of banked
The single-family house constructed by the Yana, a Native American people who lived in what is now northern California, was conical in shape, its framework of poles overlaid with slabs of bark, either cedar or pine, and banked with dirt to a height of three to four feet.
谓语一:overlaid with...
and
因此,to a height of 相比新出现的as high as,更加清晰简洁。 况且,B的that of 也罗嗦了。
看不到图片 但是支持A 如果E 或者D 的 was banked 和 was conical并列的话,是不对称的 conical adj.
its framework of poles overlaid with slabs of bark, either cedar or pine, and banked with dirt to a height of three to four feet
its framework of poles overlaid with slabs of bark, either cedar or pine, and banked with dirt to a
答案是 A。
banked with dirt 与 overlaid with slabs of bark 平行
