The government’s stockpile of helium is worth 25 percent more, at current market prices, than the debt accumulated in acquiring and storing it. Therefore, by selling the helium, the government can not only pay off that debt but reduce its overall debt as well.
Which of the following is an assumption on which the argument depends?
A.The government has no current need for helium.
B.Twenty-five percent of the debt the government has accumulated in stockpiling helium is not an insignificant portion of the government’s total debt.
C.It is not in the lawmaker’s interest to advocate raising taxes as a means of reducing government debt.
D.Attempts to sell the government’s helium will not depress the market price of helium by more than 25 percent.
E.The government will not incur any costs in closing its facilities for stockpiling helium. 答案是D,我选的E。 没有想明白哦作者: srafcatt 时间: 2012-10-22 16:04
the goal is:reduce the government's debt, there are two options: 1.raising taxes 2.selling helium the choice A and the choice E is focused on if the helium can be sold successfully, and did not mention the goal--the government's overall debt. And what if the stockpiling did incur a lot of costs but still can earn some money after paying for the debt accumulated in acquiring and storing it,plus these costs incured? It still works!!Therefore,it is clear that both choiceA and choiceE didn't catch the key element in this problem--whether the whole debt will be decreased by selling helium.作者: yyanya 时间: 2013-5-12 21:44

方案推理,提出一个方案,sell XXX,目标是repay XXXX
问加强,必须提到方案并说方案如何有效,如何可行,如何没有副作用
