OG SC 94

The recent surge in the number of airplane flights has clogged the nation’s air-traffic control

system, to lead to 55 percent more delays at airports, and prompts fears among some officials

that safety is being compromised.

(A) to lead to 55 percent more delays at airports, and prompts

(B) leading to 55 percentmore delay at airports and prompting

(C) to lead to a 55 percent increase in delay at airports and prompt

(D) to lead to an increase of 55 percent in delays at airports, and prompted

(E) leading to a 55 percent increase in delays at airports and prompting

93题中B中的more问题到底出在哪里

看CD上有人说,more要紧邻修饰对象,有两个例子:

Correct: I paid 5 dollars MORE for my sandwich today than I did yesterday.
Incorrect: I paid 5 dollars for my sandwich MORE than I did yesterday.
在后面一个句子中,more than比较的对象是什么呢?

94题,OG说,55% more delay是不恰当的,难道仅仅是因为more必须与than搭配么?

求教NN~

refiners pay about $5 a barrel for crude oil more than they did.
当more做形容词时:
pay about $5 a barrel for crude oil (more than)they did:他们去年支付的油钱比5美元还要少
当more 做副词时:
pay about $5 a barrel for crude oil (more)than they did:比去年支付的油钱多付了5美元(intended meaning)

还是不太明白,for crude oil 作为介词短语,怎么就对more的修饰产生影响了呢??

Moreover, you should not collapse certain Of-prepositional phrases into Noun-Adjective.Whenever you have a time period, quantity or othermeasurement as the first word, keep the prepositional phrase with of.Never modify a measurement using a Noun-Adjective.Also,you should generally avoid using a possessive to modify a measurement.
这是ABC对于DE的差别,就是所谓的too concise

这里说more没有问题,可是more又能作副词,又能作形容词,这里的more不会存在修饰歧义吗?55% or delay?

个人觉得,并不是for的介短影响了more,而是BCE中more的位置发生了改变,其应该紧跟barral,G的原则应该是不改变原句含义,more的位置发生改变,其修饰语成分也相对发生改变。。。。。。。

关于这个B选项:leading to 55 percentmore delay at airports and prompting——问题在于more可以修饰55%more+delay,也可以理解为55%+more delay

为什么我看不懂。。。。

同意4楼的观点~
可是在这个句子里面,
Correct: I paid 5 dollars MORE for my sandwich today than I did yesterday. 我今天买三明治多付了5元
Incorrect: I paid 5 dollars for my sandwich MORE than I did yesterday  ??
后面句子是谁和谁在比较呢?之所以让more紧邻5 dollar是因为后面这个句子more有歧义么?

另外,又找到一个题,关于more than:
An exceptionally literate people, more Icelanders publish books per capita than do the people of any other nation.
A.more Icelanders publish books per capita than do the people of
B.more Icelandic books are published by Icelanders per capita than by the people of
C.Icelanders publish more books per capita than do the people of
D.Iceland’s per capita publication of books is higher than that by
E.the per capita publication of Icelandic books is higher than that in
答案选C
我实在不明白A中more的修饰到底错在哪里?

呼叫sisichen 和DUKB~~~!!

难道问题出在per capita身上?
【per capita是人均、每人的意思,如果是more icelander…per capita,显然不对;应该用more books…per capita 】
请指教~

不好意思哈,才看到。。。A选项就是楼主说的,逻辑意思错误,应该是per capita(每个人)出版的书多,而不是更多的人出版书;用more books…per capita则是正确的,用了more icelander…per capita显然不对。 。。。还有就是这道题同位语优选哦。。。

那么在 I paid 5 dollars for my sandwich MORE than I did yesterday
这个句子里面呢?more than的比较对象是有歧义的是吗?是谁跟谁比呢?
难道不是【我今天的行为】和【我昨天的行为】进行的比较么?因为感觉than后面I did是同一个主体不同时间的比较,貌似没有什么问题。。。

Correct: I paid 5 dollars MORE for my sandwich today than I did yesterday.
Incorrect: I paid 5 dollars for my sandwich MORE than I did yesterday

LZ的这两个句子,是想强调的是more要放在原句修饰词左右,而不能随意改变位置,more位置的该表也将改变原句含义,1句more是修饰5刀,二句more修饰就是I paid这个事情。。。说的有点抽象。。LZ见谅啊

找到原帖了,http://forum.chasedream.com/GMAT_SC/thread-578913-1-1.html?extparms=ThreadCatalogID%3d0%26page%3d48
quote:
more than 的位置不同,句子的意思也是不同的,这个解释来自Gmatclub,LZ看看:
the word "more" is not correctly placed.

Correct: I paid 5 dollars more for my sandwich today than I did yesterday.

Incorrect: I paid 5 dollars for my sandwich more than I did yesterday.

"More" describes $5 and must therefore be placed next to $5.

根据楼上的观点,more的修饰,也是要遵循形容词修饰的规律,不能随意改变修饰对象,否则会造成歧义。。。
应该是这个意思吧?
