标题: 求助:PhD转校

小女子就读英国大学PhD(Finance)一年级, 全自费. 现在想转米国,加国和欧洲其它国家(因为有奖学金)但是又怕被现在的大学知道,(万一申请不成功还得继续在英国读.) 申请的Deadline已经迫近, 不知任何是好, 求各位有经验的大侠或同道中人指点迷津. 再此拜谢.

你是想问, 是该转, 还是不该转吗??

如果你想申请美国, 请系里的老师写推荐信的话, 系里不可能不知道的..

但是, 不同学校的老师对此的态度可能不同的, 我觉得有些是蛮宽容的..

我就遇到过一个同学, 在读phd 一年时转学的, 系里老师一样给写推荐信, 系里都知道也没有难为他..

我觉得你要衡量以下两点:

1. 是否有把握申请成功? 这一点倒也不难, 根据你现在学校的档次, 申请时相应地选择学校, 一定给自己留保底学校..

你现在已经是phd 学生了, 你的学习能力不难证明, 况且你在英国, 总比你在国内申请美国容易.. 所以, 我觉得这一点问题不大..

2. 你所在的学校对此的态度? 这一点你要想办法侧面打探一下.. 问问高年级的同学以前是否有类似情况以及系里的反应等等..

同时在找老师写推荐信时要仔细斟酌.. 要找那些较宽容的老师..

总结起来, 我觉得转与不转全在于你自己的决心..

如果有很强烈的愿望, 抱着背水一战的态度, 选择美国学校时有足够的保底学校.. 我不认为会不成功!

至于系里老师, 找几个nice的教授写了推荐信, 等你学校申请到手, 系里想拦你是拦不住的..

我不知道你现在是否有导师, 如果有, 也就是有点对不起他/她.. 其他的, 不成问题..

西方国家的学校在这些方面还是比较自由的.. 系里的领导也不会闲着没事和一个学生较劲..

更多人很理解这种跳槽.. 不喜欢现在的境况就换.. 再正常不过..

UMICH好象FINANCE排名比CORNELL高

不过FINANCE转学总体不容易

排名差不多的大概不难

想从三流一下子跑到一流, 基本不可能

To eternalwind: michigan may be ranked higher in past rankings butcurrently Cornell has a stronger program and better reputation: I wastold so by Umich students...

This year UMich only enrolled 2 finance phd students. The guy from Cornell is a turkish. How did you know he is a transfer student. I thought he is a MBA student in Cornell.
