More than one hundred years ago, students of ornithology reported that hummingbirds can hover as insects flitting gracefully from one flower to another.

A.as insects flitting gracefully from one flower to another

B.like insects flitting gracefully from one flower to another

C.as insects do that flit gracefully from one flower to others

D.like insects do that flit gracefully from one flower to others

E.as do insects that flit gracefully from one flower to some other one

答案选B，据说就是like insects,FLITTING是修饰insects的。但是我不是很懂这题的意思：蜂鸟是会盘旋的，但昆虫是flitting...from...to...也就是不能定住盘旋，只能从一个飞到另一个的意思吧……那么为什么是like呢，我选A的时候就当as是when的意思，比较两个动物不一样的习性呢？

求各位大神解释！
另外像NOUN+DOING这样的东西是不是不能跟在while,as,when,but....的后面？？？相关的知识您可以确定的，都可以教教我。谢谢啊

hummingbirds 和 insects是两种不同的生物，不能说hummingbirds 做为 insects，只能说hummingbirds 像 insects一样。

不过我也没理解成蜂鸟“作为"昆虫啊！我的问题我还是没有明白……

when while等从属连词后面一般接完整句子，但是如果从句主语是主句主语，且谓语是be动词，可以省略主语及be动词，接动词的分词形式。

你把as 当作when ，逻辑意思就不make sense了
难道hummingbirds 只有在 insects flit gracefully from one flower to another的时候才能can hover吗？

LSDG别激动别激动。。。。。
其实考察的就是like+N+N modifier的用法。。。。
LZ说的A，把as=when来看明显是有问题的，as引导时间状语从句，哪里有主从句啊？？？？？？明显是as+n——只能是“作为”的含义，而且本文考察的就是as与like用于表达相似性的区别
