这题选E，我想问一下E选项的which难道不存在指代错误吗？它指代的是Susan Huntington Dickinson但是应该是信被写而不是人被写啊！

再看一道题
这道题which就指代了enemies而不是wiping out the ant's natural enemies，因此要排除A，B
到底应该怎么判断which的指代呢？求帮助啊！

Many entomologists say that campaigns to eradicate the fire ant in the United States have failed because the chemicals that were used were effective only in wiping out the ant's natural enemies, which made it easier for them to spread.
A. which made it easier for them
B. which makes it easier for it
C. thus making it easier for them
D. thus making it easier for the ant (D)
E. thereby, it was made easier for the ant

which只能指代物，前面的Dickinson是人，所以不会存在指代错误。

有两点
1、which必须要touch修饰的词，但是有4种排除情况，其中一种是which修饰成分很长而修饰词后面的句子很短
例如Emily Dickinson’s letters （to Susan Huntington Dickinson）, （which were written over a period beginning a few years before Susan’s marriage to Emily’s brother and ending shortly before Emily’s death in 1886）, outnumber
相比which来说，to susan短多了，所以这个时候为了避免语义混乱可以跳跃一下

2、就是一楼说的which不会引起歧义

相比which来说，to susan短多了，所以这个时候为了避免语义混乱可以跳跃一下

which和that一样都不能用于指代人

指代人只可以用who 或者 whom

棒棒的解释不错，不过这题不需要用到manhattan所谓的exception

从语法正确性来找指代对象
