看了很多前面关于这道题的讨论，关于C选项，认为错误的地方主要有三种：

（1）is在这里不能省略

（2）little polar ice这种用法有歧义

（3）or else是口语表达

我想问一下：

关于（1），以前我针对OG218题提出过关于be动词省略的疑问，于是有热心人给我举例：I am a student and he a teacher.并告诉我“系动词可以省，实意动词用do, did,......代替“，我当时也觉得可以接受，那这样的话，这里的is是不是也是可以省的呢？

关于（2），我们知道在GMAT里面，两个名词连用往往是有歧义的，这也适用于形容词吗？

关于（3），我不能确定，有没有人confirm一下？

1. 我的认为是可以省略的。

2. 不适用. 单独从C选项看，little polar ice没有错误.

3. 有这种说法。GMAT考试用的是比较高级的书面英语，所以口语表达肯定不合适。但是, 在实际考试里面，我们无从判断什么是口语表达，什么是书面表达。

4. 上述三点都不是关键，我认为C的错误是不能和划线后面的虚拟句很好的连接起来，但是B里面的were it to do so, 就明确的表达了虚拟的含义。

rhod GG, I have the same question as 楼上那位MM, 可否请您confirm, 排除C选项主要就是因为（3） or else 是口语化表达。

对于1我还有一个补充，就是白勇的书说be 动词其实可省可不省，但是在GMAT中倾向于省略

我总在想，ETS出题人也是不断在换的，那末是否他的一些这种可用可不用的规矩就有些出题人遵守，有些出题人不遵守，所以我们就总是认为ETS高深莫测

另外，我觉得这道题，B和C还有一个很大的区别在分号和逗号上，or else有连词的作用吗，应该不可以引导句子,请指正

完了，今天重过OG时，发现OG中这么一道题：

188. As a result of medical advances, many people that might at one time have died as children of such infections as diphtheria, pneumonia, or rheumatic fever now live well into old age.

(A) that might at one time have died as children

(B) who might once have died in childhood

(D) who in childhood might have at one time died

(E) who, when they were children, might at one time have died

答案是B

在这里的定语从句中用了虚拟语气，而后面就是一般现在时，那我们能认为这种连接是可以的，而上面所说的GWD 3-10用C就是缺乏连接吗？

我晕，哪位大虾伸伸援手？

C选项里是没有，但是后面的未划线部分“the water levels of the oceans would rise 250 feet and engulf most of the world’s great cities”里面不是用了would不能认为是虚拟语气吗？

个人觉得还是逻辑联接的问题，c中的or else并不能很清楚的指出是谁的or else，是the temperatures are so cold and the ice cap is reflective这件事情，还是little of the polar ice melts这件事情

were it to do so则明确指出了是little of the polar ice melts 这件事情

1# is 在这里可以省略。。。。

2# 原文中用的是句号后otherwise.. 如果像楼上的NN能approve ",or else' 能代替otherwise。我觉得C 比B好。

期待NN 进一步讨论。。。。

1.既然crowkiller找到原文，我觉得关于可不可以省略单复数谓语的讨论就不存在了：are so cold and ice caps so reflective是对的

2.那么比较Or else和were it to do so哪个正确，感觉or else的虚拟语气不是那么强烈，是or或者的意思，与现在事实相反，就是有可能发生的意思，而were it to do so给出了一个虚拟的前提条件，也即后面的吞没城市是不可能发生的

故仍然选B

认为C错的都觉得or else有问题

可是

既然otherwise后能接虚拟，B这样的就即wordy，又有歧义（前面有那么多，单数名词，凭什么用it没有歧义呢？指Antarctica，do指receive？）
