In contemporary society, obviously, people enjoy the benefits from the significant development of science and technology. And the debate over whether human beings have already embraced the qualified lives with the help of social advances has been raging for quite some time. As far as I am concerned, the science and technology actually contributed our wonderful lives now, although it is arbitrary to claim that the most critical improvement has appeared.
Initially, agriculture have benefited from science and technology with abundant food produced. Other things being equal, recent agriculture which is filled with technique is certainly more prone to produce plentiful food for the whole world than did the previous. Apparently, it is science and technology that have been considered as major element to the improved agricultural products. Quote an example to demonstrate this. In 1900s, agricultural food, like rice, wheat, meat, could only cover the half or less population's need in China. Comparatively, almost 90% Chinese citizens have enough and diverse rice and vegetables in daily meals now.
Science and technology, in addition, allowed transportation much more convenient. Among the advantages of the modern transportation is to permit people's life to be more effective and efficient. The incredible speed of airplane is the most explicit example. One general investigation conducted by experts indicates that, after the invented of airplane, the average time spend during the trip is ten times shorter than used in the past. The contemporary transportation vehicle gives people nowadays a substantial edge over the people in the past with its faster speed. Consequently, with more time to be saved on road, today people possess more time to work and rest.
However, science and technology does not solve the problems in medicine and people's health. We have to confirm that it is science and technology who lengthened human being's life, but there are still numerous diseases unconquered. Take the cancer for instance. Numberless people have suffered from cancer throughout the human's history with limited treatments and few cured. For years, scientists as well as doctors devoted themselves to decipher the secrets of cancer. And as the result, the development of science and technology relatively made some progress which light the patients' pain and extend their lifetime, but people still die because of the unsolved cancer.
In conclusion, although so dramatic is science and technology that our life quality improved impressively, it would not be too accuracy to state that science and technology has already made the most significant improvement.
