之前在OG也遇见过，今天看prep又见一个，跪谢了亲们~例如此题：Rock samples taken from the remains of an asteroid about twice the size of the 6-mile-wide asteroid that eradicated the dinosaurs has been dated to be 3.47 billion years old and thus is evidence of the earliest known asteroid impact on Earth.
A.   has been dated to be 3.47 billion years old and thus is

prep08语法笔记：

1. date to/at区分
1) date….to 可追溯sth到...几年，强调发生的时间点，后面是ago
2) date….at 年代判定、鉴别/年份有….年之久，强调发生到现在经过的时间有多长，后面是old

2. 注意date to 后面是ago，而date at 后面是old。
date…..to可追溯sth到...几年，强调发生的时间点
P1-129 The teeth and jawbones found in Tanzania by Dr. Mary Leakey anddating to3.75 million years ago are the oldest reliably dated human fossils.

date….at年代判定、鉴别/ 年份有….年之久，强调发生到现在经过的时间有多长

3. 另外date在OG 之可见用法如下：
date back: have its origin
date from: to reckon from some point in time

我的理解是 be estimated to do sth/be ... 是固定搭配，而date的搭配是上面的，比如date to, date at, date from, date back to

请问为什么到了be estimated这里楼上所说的规则就不适用了呢？

不是大牛。是不是因为to-infinitive表达的是purpose或者某人的opinion。estimate类似plan，在这个句子里面有表达考古学家的opinion，所以用estimate X to be合适。

而date没有这层意思，只是陈述事实，有固定搭配：X is dated at ... years old

这道题是be estimated to be，和dated to/dated at不一样
be estimated to be X years old，to表示状态的转换，因为被假设了，所以它是多大年龄，实际上它可能不是这个年龄
