标题: 今天一位760大牛遇到的语法题，大家看看

The surface cells of some species of frogs and ... can release chemicals when predators seize them.

A) when predators seize them

B) 记不清楚

C) when predators seize the animals

d)不记得。反正错

E) when the animals are seized by their predators.

大牛选了E。

我的意见是选C。不知道大家认为如何？

E的their不会产生歧义吧？而且ETS好像更喜欢C的表达。但是C和E的句子读起来好像重心不一样，大家发表一下看法吧。

E的their用來指代前文所提到的the animals，應該是不會有歧義。在既有選項中偶選E，念起來感覺比較順。

LES,这道题目要是翻译成中文，感觉E读起来更对哟。

“某种青蛙的表面细胞能释放化学物质，当这些青蛙被抓的时候”

而不是“某种青蛙的表面细胞能释放化学物质，当捕食者抓住青蛙的时候”

要说读起来顺，偶觉得A最顺。

选C的理由：

1.　their有指代歧义；

2.　主动优于被动。

p.s.偶觉得用翻译成中文来判断顺不顺不是一个好方法，因为本来英语就是跟中文到过来的。

E好像是顺口一些...

偶刚又在google上搜到一句话：The skins of some species of frogs and toads secrete an extraordinary array of defensive chemicals when the animals are seized by predators.

这样看来E是对了。是不是C中the animals的the有问题呢？

都是大牛，先景仰一下

我是觉得这里强调的是当动物被捕食者抓住时，他们的表面细胞会释放出化学物质。所以应该要强调被动的。主从句的主语也比较协调。

如果按C句理解虽然也成立，但从句换了主语以后E的被动句中轻微的因果关系就不是很明显了。不过这还要看原来的上下文到底在强调什么。我只是猜一下选E的理由。请NN们指正。

这道题目我的看法跟stellate一样。主要考察的是动作的承载者。ets很重视前后句（并列也好，主从也罢）的consistent.这道题我觉得强调的主体是the animals.这些动物被抓的时候会从表皮放射出某种物质。

我记得og还是gwd有一道类似的题目。最后也选了被动语态。好象是说眼睛能够看到的光的波长的吧。说that can be registed by the eyes.当时我也产生了主动优于被动的疑惑，后来发现从绝对意义上来说ets觉得逻辑关系是要高过主动/被动优先选择的。

所以我选了E

我是个新手。

我觉得应该选E吧。因为整句话其实都在讲青蛙以及其身上的事情，句子是以这个作为重点，而且E的语法上没有什么缺陷，反而C中从句的突然改成predators，感觉比较错愕。另外Predators前面没有修饰语，好像比较违背ETS语言逻辑严密的作风（变成了泛指）。

各位大哥认为呢？

支持e，虽然是被动，但感觉两个主语一致，c中这个animals的感觉似乎不好，但我觉得，google上的句子应该不能做数，毕竟ets的要求是特别的

居然发现只有LES选C, 我来支持一下LES. 我认为主动优先，C选项里面主谓宾逻辑关系都很清楚。

E错误:

1. E里面没有必要用被动。

2. 这题明显考到了代词的指代，A里面的them, E里面的their都有指代不清的嫌疑。逻辑意思是GMAT里很重要的一个考点，但是在考虑逻辑意思之前，建议先考虑一下指代这个在GMAT里面更common的考点.

I stand with LES and rhod.

In the test I will choose C, C looks concise and better than E with active voice. I simply couldn't see any fallacy of the logic sense of choice C in exam.

However, I will still vote for C after careful scrutiny. I still can't see anything wrong in C. The article "the" is correct, it explicitly refers to the frogs and other animals mentioned before. The "when" clause just tells the time when the action of the main clause occurs. I deem this choice is simply free of grammatic and logic faults.

I think the "their" in E can explicitly refer to "the animals", because "their" and "the animals" are in the same clause. So there is nothing wrong with the referent of "their". I think E is wrong because of some other reasons: Besides E uses passive voice, E has another problem - "their predator" may cause misunderstanding. As we know, genitive case(or possessive case也就是属格) can represent 所有关系，主谓关系，动宾关系和同位关系等. Here, "their predator" may be 主谓关系, i.e. , the predators that are attacking them, or 所有关系，i.e.，the predators that normally eat them.

1. Therefore, though these various meanings are not critical in common articles, ETS may want the exma takers to know this subtle different usages of genitive case.

2. .And as I always mentioned, the choice with the most attractive appearance may be a beautiful trap. E sounds smoother and more fluent than C, thus in this difficult subject, E is more likely to be a wrong choice.

我第二次看这个帖子了, 觉得ETS在代词指代上主要是说三个问题: no referent, unclear referent, illogical referent. 其中no referent和illogical referent是硬伤, 而unclear referent在OG中好象有通过逻辑意思最终确认指代对象的例子(sorry不能确定具体例子,只是记得看到过,希望牛人确认一下), 这题E选项的their应该可以通过逻辑意思确定指代吧.

如果我的记忆没错的话, 也想知道这种通过逻辑意思排除模糊指代的方法适用于哪些情形.

我没注意到是不是立刻变难, 但是我可以明确地说最后的语法很难. 我前面的语法30秒绝对搞定一道, 后面的大概都要超过1分钟.而且, 我最后的语法开始出现怪题, 我在我的jj中提到过.
