Matt trains in many ways such as by driving on racetracks.
Can anyone explain why it is wrong ? Such as is supposed to be followed by an example and it is so in the above sentence.

You can treat 'as' here as a typical preposition. What can follow a prep? --- things act as a noun, such as, 'noun, clause, gerund..'.
